Going with the Gospel

Fine, Fine Things He Did

Donald A. Henderson

Date of Birth: Friday, April 3, 1925
 in Fort Worth, Texas
Date of  Death: Friday, July 1, 2011
 in Brandon, Florida

I first met Don when he came to Breckenridge, Texas, to visit Seborn Cowart, his former roommate from Central Bible Institute in Springfield, Missouri.  Seborn was the associate pastor at our church and had just become engaged to my older sister, Gwineva.
That is how Don met my other sister, Lyndall, and fell in love with the beautiful teenager and would marry her 10 years later.  When they met, I was about 12 and began a friendship with Don that continued to grow and deepen through the years.
Though I would soon travel with Seborn in evangelistic meetings and in establishing the church in Ranger, Texas, Don and I never had ministry together until 2007 when he accompanied me to India.  There, we preached and taught in 12 churches and 6 Bible Colleges in 10 cities throughout India.  Following his teaching sessions, Don was often given a standing ovation by the students, the professors and myself.
Recently, Pastor Ivan of the huge church in Calcutta was guest professor at the Assemblies of God seminary in Springfield, Missouri.  We had several meals together and he spoke of Don's wonderful teaching and unforgettable humor.
Don taught for 38 years at Central Bible College and his students are scattered throughout the world.  Across America and in the 40 countries I have visited in ministry, I am constantly meeting former students of his who tell me that he was their favorite teacher of all time, though his tests were something frightful!
Our world is fortunate that Don began teaching in Bible Colleges and seminaries globally, traveling with Lyndall in the summers.  After his retirement and following Lyndall's death, he was on the road constantly teaching and blessing thousands of future ministers of the Gospel of Christ.
We shall all miss so many unique facets of Don's remarkable life, but most of all we shall miss his love and kindness.
